Central Air Conditioners

High-efficiency central AC systems, sized to your home's real load — not a rule of thumb. Compare operating units at the Design Center before you decide.

Why it matters

  • Right-sizing based on load calculation, not square footage guesses
  • High-efficiency options that cut summer bills
  • Installed and serviced by the same team

What to consider

  • SEER2 efficiency vs. upfront cost
  • Single-stage vs. two-stage vs. variable speed
  • Duct condition — a new AC can't fix leaky ducts

What size air conditioner does a home need?

The size that matches the home's actual cooling load — which depends on insulation, windows, orientation, and ductwork, not just square footage. Oversized systems short-cycle and cool unevenly; undersized ones run constantly on hot afternoons. That's why we measure and calculate before quoting instead of using a rule of thumb.

Does Northern Nevada's climate change what to look for?

It does. Our summers pair hot afternoons with cool nights, and high-desert dust is hard on outdoor coils. Two-stage and variable-speed systems can run longer at lower output for steadier comfort through those swings, and any system here benefits from seasonal maintenance to keep coils clean.

Should you repair the old one or replace it?

Age, repair cost, and refrigerant type drive that call. A small repair on a younger system is usually worth it; a major repair on a system 15+ years old — or one still using phased-out R-22 refrigerant — deserves a replacement quote for comparison. Our repair-or-replace framework walks through the math we use.

What's the next step?

See central AC systems running at the Design Center in Reno — and hear the difference between single-stage and variable-speed for yourself — or request an estimate and we'll start with the measurements.

See operating condensers and air handlers side by side, and hear the difference between single-stage and variable-speed systems.
